Abandoned animals can be found in every country in the world. One of the joys of my trip to Italy was discovering groups of people who take care of dogs and cats who have been left to fend for themselves. At the main gate to the ruins of Pompeii, I discovered a sign for I Cani di Pompei (The Dogs of Pompeii), an organization dedicated to caring for the abandoned dogs who live among the ruins.
At the university dorm in Urbino, a small shelter, constantly supplied with food and water, has been provided by students for the colony of affectionate, nonferal cats who live there. Blessings to the people who donate their time and money to help these animals.
